Happy Wednesday!

So glad it’s the middle of the week; it means we’re getting closer to all important Friday! I’ve decided to throw a night of ping pong this coming Saturday at good ol’ Bounce in Central London to commemorate finishing uni. Should be fun! Not that I am planning on wearing the above outfit there of course! Imagine that?! No, no, no! But I did order this dress from River Island last night and I’m thinking of wearing it next weekend. I’m going to Switzerland again just for two days for a night out. Loving the improvisation on the top half of this dress – it should work quite nicely for a hard-meets-soft transitional look that’s not too dressy nor casual. I’ll keep it dressy with some saucy stilettos but play it down with an open, slightly oversized bomber jacket. And make-up, I’m going to go for a more flawless look by using a range of bronzers, gloss and illuminators rather than something heavy. Let’s hope I don’t start singing ‘I woke up like this!’ Haaaa, we’ll see how this works! Have a great day beauts!

This is my look from last Saturday afternoon. Featuring my ultimate favourite coat from River Island. Love it so much that one day I will clone it in every colour possible.

Outfit – May Baby

IMG_5489May – my month! I have a feeling it’s going to be a good one this year… :)IMG_5424 IMG_5458IMG_5403

Hope you guys have had a good week. Apologies for the radio silence, it’s been a hectic one for me. I handed in one of my final assessments for uni on Tuesday. Gosh, I can’t wait till I finish my course in September!

IMG_5506For now though, I’m just happy it’s Friday. The sun making more and more frequent appearances is reminding me that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Hoping to compliment that light, I’m wearing a distinctively effeminate summer dress today. I hope you all enjoy your weekend. My fun will be starting at Janelle Monae’s London gig tonight. Is excited a word?

Neon Lace dress – River Island; Aviators – Ray Ban

Outfit – La Parisian

Second outfit post of the year, doing well aren’t I…?! How embarrassing!! I don’t really know how I’ve gotten to February with only two outfit posts under my belt. El has definitely been holding it down for #teamcoup since ’13 turned.

The whole world slows down in the first month of the year; surely I’m not alone in that boat…

Or perhaps I am! Anyways, starting as I now mean to go on, here’s todays outfit. What d’ya think?! The monochrome stripes are making me feel all Parisian, I should have put on a beret to add a little extra je ne sais quoi.

I couldn’t resist getting my Beyonce on with a little GIF animation for you! Haha, I bought this skirt from BooHoo about a month ago. They said it would look like it had been made of feathers. That’s not quite the case but it’s still okay for having a little shake in.

As you can see, I is a happy bird! I hope you beautiful people are doing just fine too! I promise to be back again soon :)

Adiyam_signature_the_coupWearing: Boxy Engineered Stripe Tee – Topshop; Tiered Feather Skirt – BooHoo; Over the Knee boots – River Island (sold out, similar here); Chronogaphy Watch – Michael Kors

Added to my wardrobe: River Island mini chain bag

the_coup_river_island_mini_chain_bagAs a total sucker for anything remotely Chanel inspired, I fell hard for this mini cross body bag from River Island. I adore everything about it, it’s petite but not too small size, textured leather, boxy shape and sturdy gold chain. It will come with me everywhere!

Outfit Inspiration – Aztec

Sandre Aztec Sequin Mini DressI’m in love with this Sandre Aztec Sequin Mini Dress. I must admit, I’ve never purchased anything from Missguided before but I can’t wait to have this piece in my wardrobe. I’d pair this with minimalistic, strappy white sandals though. Perhaps these River Island ‘Barely There’ beauties?

Accessories for Your Knits

Yep, winter is truly here and I am spending almost every day now in a cosy knit. Luckily I have a nice selection of fabulous necklaces to jazz up those jumpers. I like pairing them up with unexpected textures and colours, from a few items to choose from there could be unlimited pairings. Have fun!

From left to right, Topshop’s knitted speckle jumper and H&M multi gem necklace; Mint bow back jumper from Dorothy Perkins with Zara gold necklace with coloured beads; Orange Chelsea Girl fluffy crop jumper paired with pyramid stud necklace from Topshop.

Trend Alert: Velvet Vixens

Gucci and L’Wren Scott looks from Fall 2012 collections.

You have probably already noticed – Velvet is back! Making a first appearance since 2010, now we have another opportunity to purchase a few items made from this luxurious and sumptuous material. It is fair to say that velvet will be a valuable addition to your closet. You have probably seen your mother and your grandmother whipping out their velvets every now and again and those pieces never losing their charm and ‘wow’ factor.

Velvet makes me think of Playboy mansion, a royalty on a trip to Monaco and a Gucci girl. Speaking of which, Kim Kardashian, who made a jaw dropping appearance last week at a the Midori Makeover Parlour in L.A. wore a stunning  emerald green Gucci from their Fall Winter 2012 collection, same as the navy version above. Gucci does velvet very well, but for those who have no means to go designer, I have also found a few perfect items from the high street that are bound to satisfy all your velvet cravings!

From left to right, Zara vamp shoe with velvet heel, £19.99; Red velvet blazer from River Island, £35; Topshop’s velvet shorts, £32; Juicy Couture bow front velvet bag, £56 (on sale, from outnet.com); Gucci long velvet dress; Velvet tapered pants By Malene Birker, £190; T by Alexander Wang maxi skirt, £112 (sale, from outnet.com); H&M heels, £29.99.

Trend Alert – Opulent Baroque

As one of this seasons most prominent trends, opulent baroque designs are big, bold and back. Likewise, the big boys are doing them well. Dolce and Gabbana, one of Italy’s most luxarious fashion brands, first showcased their desire to lead the ‘baroque boom’ with their dazzlingly, vibrant runway designs earlier this year during Milans Fashion Week.

You too may have seen ‘This Weeks; Spot On’ post last Wednesday; Selena Gomez looked like a dream in another baroque design that was also brought to us by D&G. With high street taking to opulent baroque, there is no reason for you not to indulge in this seasons most prominent trend. Just remember your golds, blacks, heavily embroidered designs and you are good to go!

Vogue Fashion Night Out

A review: Vogue’s Fashion Night Out – London: the party, the music, the fashion.

An uncoordinated sequence of crowds gathered outside almost every store to experience the euphoric frenzy that engulfed that the capital last Thursday evening. From high-street to high fashion, hundreds of fashion devotees flocked to the capital to experience London’s FNO. With music pumping from every corner, free goody bags and complimentary champagne, Vogue’s FNO rocked central Londons fashion world to it’s core. And there we were. Team Coup; we hit the high-street hard. Zara, Mango, Urban Outfitters; we went everywhere! Our two favourites for the night however, had to be River Island and Topshop.

Upon arrival at River Island, we were greeted by an uber cute mini named “Ri Ver” and nail bar. And with an amazing A/W range, discounts on all purchases and complimentary goody bags, there was no way Team Coup could resist a little buy. It was Topshop however that was the hub of the high street. With free prize draws for either a years shoe supply or £500 to spend in store, hundreds of both young and mature ladies sported smiles as proof that they were in total bliss. And, if we’re totally honest, Team Coup were amongst the group. We even got to see a free live performance by British singer/songwriter Delilah (about 2 weeks ago, we bought tickets to go to her concert in October, so you can understand why this excited us so much!).

What we loved most about FNO was that it aimed to and, we believe, successfully improved accessibility to fashion for all. We all know that the fashion world is hugely diverse in it’s nature; high fashion is high fashion, and high street is high street. But what FNO successfully achieved however was that individuals who shopped in Topshop were equally able to walk into Burberry and have the same shopping experience. Likewise the hundreds that flocked to central London were so diverse in personal style. We had young and mature ladies and people of all different colours and creeds. With ease, FNO catered for all.

With both London and Team Coup still buzzing, it’s safe to say that say we’re already looking forward to next year!

What was the highlight of your FNO experience? Whether it was in London or elsewhere around the world, we’d love to hear about your experience in a comment below!

Injection of Leather

Oh how I love leather! Whenever I’m browsing shops, leather pieces are the first things that catch my eyes. However being a petite girl with a not very edgy look, a full leather jacket seems too harsh, so I always prefer to add small touches here and there. To my luck this season high street is filled with these full leather sleeve jackets. You can go for khaki, utility or a tweed plus leather all in one- Genius! I think they are ideal for someone who wants to try and introduce a bit of leather into their wardrobe.

At the top, Lipsy soft tweed contrast coat, £80.
Above from left, khaki army jacket from River Island, £55; H&M jacket, £29.99; Topshop contrast sleeve army jacket, £65; River Island fallaway biker jacket, £55.

Knits After Dark

I would have never thought I would be reaching out for knitwear mid-summer. But it is what it is and this year UK can’t seem to get enough sunshine! Getting pins out for a walk to work is fine, but as soon as the evening comes, I get some serious goose bumps. In times like these light, soft knits are life savers! This Zara piece is guaranteed to make you warm enough to enjoy that glass of wine on the terrace. Such a simple shape best exaggerated with some costume drama jewelry! Clockwise from top,  Zara jumper, £25.99; Tom Binns ‘Love of God’ necklace, £1305 + splashout painted Swarowski crystal earrings, £290; River Island black and gold tone pack of bracelets, £13.

Ri Ri for River Island!!

Breaking news, it has just been confirmed that pop sensation Rihanna is set to design her first ever fashion collection with high street favourite River Island. The 24-year-old Bajan beauty, who is known for her edgy, street yet chic style, already has multi platinum albums, blockbuster films and fragrances under her belt. Although we’re going to have to wait until Spring 2013 before RiRi’s range hits stores, I’m pretty confident that it’ll fly off the shelves. It’ll be interesting to see what the range will be like. I don’t know about you but I can’t wait!
