TBT – Colour Pop

January 2015 adiyam the coup london fashion blogJanuary 2014

This photo seems so alien to me. Lately I’ve been wearing nothing but black (a hue that I am currently wearing, as I’m sitting here typing away; shock!) Likewise, although this photo was only taken last January, I feel as though it was a lifetime ago. I’ve been hibernating this winter and really feeling the winter blues. Hopefully the weather over the past few days is an indication of winter (finally) drawing to a close. Roll on spring, and a summer filled with lots of colour.

Outfit Inspiration – Aztec

Sandre Aztec Sequin Mini DressI’m in love with this Sandre Aztec Sequin Mini Dress. I must admit, I’ve never purchased anything from Missguided before but I can’t wait to have this piece in my wardrobe. I’d pair this with minimalistic, strappy white sandals though. Perhaps these River Island ‘Barely There’ beauties?

Colour Blocking – Mini Neon Dress

Mini Neon Dress - TFNC Topshop London

Happy Monday!

Any one that has had the pleasure (and stress) of rummaging through my wardrobe will vouch for my fondness of colours. In my eyes, all things bright are beautiful.

Mini Neon Dress - TFNC Topshop London

A little under two weeks ago my amazing colleagues treated me to a birthday shopping trip in central London. After spending hours – which felt like minutes – getting lost in Topshop I decided on this mini number by London brand, TFNC.

Now I know the colours are a little on the bright side but I absolutely adore this piece! The focus on block colours meant that it was easier and best to keep my accessories to a minimum. A perfect time to wear those ASOS ‘Hollywood’ heels I bought a couple months ago. Likewise the feathered simplicity of my clutch bag and my timeless, gold Michael Kors piece helped add both texture and jazz.

Now all we need is the sunshine to last…!

Benetton Brights

fw12_benetton_the_coupThere are many reasons not to like Mondays, so when I am feeling a little low, I try to inject some colour in my look.  And there is one brand that you can trust to do just that! I have to admit it has been a while since I have wandered into United Colours of Benetton, but this afternoon I did just that! Loving their FW12 collection (pictured), on sale in stores now.

Accessories for Your Knits

Yep, winter is truly here and I am spending almost every day now in a cosy knit. Luckily I have a nice selection of fabulous necklaces to jazz up those jumpers. I like pairing them up with unexpected textures and colours, from a few items to choose from there could be unlimited pairings. Have fun!

From left to right, Topshop’s knitted speckle jumper and H&M multi gem necklace; Mint bow back jumper from Dorothy Perkins with Zara gold necklace with coloured beads; Orange Chelsea Girl fluffy crop jumper paired with pyramid stud necklace from Topshop.

Things that make me go ‘Ohh’!

Oh What are you doing to me Pierre Hardy? These heels are like candy, completely irresistible! Staying true to Pierre Hardy’s geometric designs, these babies create an updated take on colour blocking. I would pair them up with an all black outfit, to help make that ‘wow’ statement.

An Interview with… Nomilk Today

Here at The Coup we are all about discovering fresh and unique designs. So we are very proud to introduce our new feature called  ‘An Interview with…’ where we will bring your attention to uber creative and ambitious designers from all over the world. We hope you will fall in love with their work as much as we have!

Today we are introducing you to Nomilk Today, whose fresh, geometric designs tick all the right boxes when it comes to statement jewellery. With a theme of colour blocking, Nomilk Todays pieces are bound to receive a lot of compliments.  And, bonus, until Sunday evening, we are giving The Coup readers (you) an exclusive discount of 20% on all of Todays designs. Now that’s something to smile about :)

The Coup spoke to Eva, the owner, about her beginnings, inspirations and how she makes it work, being an agronomist and a jewellery designer.

Q: What made you decide to start your own business?
Being an agronomist student in Athens, and trying to cover my own expences I worked in different jobs while studying. Then in 2010 I had to write my thesis and my time was limited. Knowing that next year I would move to the Netherlands for an Msc, I had to find a way to work from home. So, already familiar with polymer clay, I started crafting. I found Etsy, I started with the usual polymer clay sculptures and after 4 months, I came up with the idea of a polymer clay vitreau. Little by little, I managed to do a lot of progress in the way I work on this technique, but still there is more to come.

Q: Where do you get your inspiration?
I like to observe. A lot. I find inspiration in details around me but also on the internet. The more I browse, the more I see and get inspired. But most of all, my imagination makes the hard work here!

Q: What are your favourite materials to work with and why?
Polymer clay, definitely. Its so convenient and playful to work with, and I found out it has many more potentials than just the usual ones. Many people dont even realise that I work with polymer clay, because as far as I know, I was the first to use it to make this kind of vitreau.

Q: How would you define your style?
I really dont know how to answer this question. I suppose it depends on how someone incorporates my pieces in her wardrobe. But for sure nomilk today style is easy going and joyful!

Q: What’s been the highlight of your career to date?
On March 2011, when my work was featured on design-milk.com. This had a huge impact on the traffic in my shop and gave me a great boost!

Q: What would you like to do next?
Right now, I am just trying to make it work out together with studying. Its a bit tough, though. Next year I will finish the Msc and start working as an agronomist, but nomilk today is now part of me, I dont want to quit it! Maybe I ll do some seminars to work with silver and then combine the two means. My dream is to have my own farm in a Greek island. And then, you know farmer and jewelry designer-this is something I am looking forward to see!

Q: Do you create small production runs or make to order?
I do both, and I have to say I really like custom orders. I also accept wholesale orders for small boutiques.

Q: Where would our readers find your products for sale?
They can find my items on my Etsy page and can keep in touch through my facebook fan page

Anyone who knows me will be able to tell you that I’m totally ‘watch crazy.’ From silver to gold,  leopard print, black and even rose-coloured leather straps; you name the style, I can guarantee that I’ve either had it or a worthy alternative.

But I’ve had my eye on these Michael Kors treasures for a while now and I’m having a pretty hard time deciding which one should be my next investment. Fancy feeding my addiction by helping me chose? All comments are welcome – which one do you think should be my next purchase?

Toffee Tanned Totes

Everywhere I go, I’m seeing shoppers lugging around huge totes. And not just any colour – toffee is the colour of this season. As this seasons must-have accessory, shoppers everywhere are sporting one. Think about it, I’ll be surprised if you haven’t seen a handful of stylist ladies around sporting a ‘Toffee Tanned Tote.’

Will these ‘Toffee Tanned Totes’ become fashions next staple? That, I don’t know. What I do know however is that right now they are in and they are hot! Carrying bundles of shopping has never been so chic. Make sure you grab yours today!

Unze London – ‘Diamonds are a girls best friend’

‘Diamonds are a girls best friend’ – how right they are!

The Eastern world has always showed their love for bling in the right way and can teach us a trick or two when it comes footwear. From J Lo to Heidi Klum, the red carpet is always glistening with heavenly creations by Christian Louboutin and Manolo Blahnik, but a pocket friendly alternative can be found at a little treasure chest called Unze.

From the moment you walk into an Unze shoe store, you are quite literally blinded by sparkling Swarovski and rhinestone encrusted shoes. With Bollywood music playing in the background you’ll find yourself imagining yourself breaking into song and dance at the starting point of ‘shoes, glorious shoes….’

From flats to 9 inch heels they stock every style in all colours of the rainbow, so colour matching is never an issue. And if they haven’t got your size in stock there is no need to shed a tear – these lovely people will post it to you as soon as the following day. So, all you need to do is get the pedicure sorted; these guys definitely have the shoes covered.

Get to Know…Kate Spade

Westfield Store (photo by The Coup)

I get so excited when I get introduced to a new label! That’s exactly what happened when I wondered into a new Kate Spade New York store in Westfield (White City) shopping centre. This boutique is lovely, ambient and all of the products were presented with great style and composition. I must have spent good 20 minutes walking through the shop, constantly stopping, looking and touching every item. From clothes to jewellery, to bags and shoes, you see the trademark Kate Spade’s design being carried through.

It all started in 1993, when Kate Brosnahan Spade set out to design the perfect bag. She created only 6 silhouettes, playing with sleek colour palettes and textures. Everyone fell for that fresh take on the everyday accessory and from then on Kate Spade New York with its graphic approach and trademark became a visually recognisable brand all over the world.

In 2012 you see this brand carry it’s colourful design through handbags and clothing, jewellery, shoes, stationery, eyewear, baby, fragrance, tabletop, bedding and gifts.

At the average price of £200 for a designer bag – it is very good value. You can see one of them being featured in your ‘Work It’ bag post here. Cannot wait to pop in there for another look next time I am in Westfield! http://www.katespade.com

50 shades of….

No not Gray, that was so last season! I’m talking colour pop denim. Summer’s the only time of year that you can really get away with wearing bright and bold colours, with no one assuming you’re a little ‘colourful’ in more ways than one! A few weeks back we brought you colour pop watches, now we’re bringing you colour pop denim. And I’m loving this summer collection by Ralph Lauren! Go on, try something new today. I dare you!
